Issue #28 ~ I’ve recently been reading an excellent book on the ancient Greek and medieval philosophy of space and time. The author is Richard Sorabji and the title of his 1983 exposition is “Time, Creation and the Continuum”. Sorabji is a historian of philosophy and his book has – for the first time – revealed to me the extent, intricacy and beauty of some of the arguments pertaining to the topic of space and time from that period.
Dear Vlatko, When you were talking about the same quantized approach to sound waves, I expected you to say that the number of atoms might be important in hearing threshold; because atoms are the fundamental building blocks of the sound wave, not the phonons which are simply the collective excitation modes of sound waves. What is your idea about this statement?
Thank you again for a wonderful discourse on perspectives of physics and for passing along the wisdom or at least thoughts from the ages in this one. I strongly believe that the way forward in physics is through the reinterpretation of the concept of Time. Specifically the reformulation of theories to include Time as Quantum Field and the chronons you mentioned. Any possible way to expand upon why this theory is not being explored more or how to develop experiments to disprove it?
If I have understood your views well, you see that gravity is not classical, but something quantum. Does this agree with Nima Hamid Arkani, who says in his famous lecture that The union of quantum mechanics and gravity strongly suggests that “space-time is doomed and that space-time and quantum mechanics will be seen to emerge hand-in-hand from more primitive principles ,
